Third Generation Fencing Company

Ralph Carli was a fireman at Engine 7, Ladder 4 on Highland Avenue in Somerville, MA. When he wasn’t working at the firehouse, he was busy building the foundation for what would soon be known as Carli Fence Company.

In 1950, Carli Fence Company was established and Ralph bought his first truck, a 1948 Dodge pickup that is still kept at our warehouse today. He rented a garage close to his home in Somerville to accommodate his growing business and hired his brother John, also a fireman.

By 1960, the business was flourishing and Ralph decided it was time to buy his own shop, located on Kent Court in Somerville. When they were old enough, his sons, Ralph Jr. and Tom also joined the family business, working after school, during school vacations and on Saturdays.

In 1977, Carli Fence Company outgrew the space on Kent Court and Ralph Sr. bought a new shop and yard located at 30 Newberne Street and 128 Willow Avenue in Somerville. All the while, Rita ran the office from their home while raising their five children Rita, Barbara, Ralph Jr., Nancy and Tom.

Sadly, Ralph Sr. passed away on June 3, 1985 and Rita passed away on November 28, 1988. Carli Fence Company persevered with the strong leadership, determination and hard work of Ralph Jr., Tom, and their wives Rose and Barbara. Ralph Sr.’s grandsons, Ralph III and Tom Jr. have continued to honor the Carli family name and now run Carli Fence Co Inc alongside their fathers.

Once again, in 2006 we found ourselves outgrowing our shop and moved into a new, bigger and better location! Come visit us at our new shop, office and showroom, located at 70 Union Street in Medford, MA next to the Medford Police Station.
